Studios Find Way To Defeat DVD Modification

Columbia TriStar Home Video has confirmed that it is using a program called Regional Coding Enhancement that will prevent its DVDs from being played on any player that has been modified to permit playback outside the disks' intended region, the online Inside magazine reported today (Friday). A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Home Video said that it is testing RCE, but added, "it's not quite cut and dry whether we will be using it."
