X-FILES actress Gillian Anderson last night (25OC00) scooped the BEST ACTRESS AWARD at the prestigious BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS.

Anderson, 31, won for her performance in the critically acclaimed THE HOUSE OF MIRTH, beating out such acclaimed performances as JULIE WALTERS (BILLY ELLIOT), EMILY WATSON (THE LUZHIN DEFENCE) and BRENDA BLETHYN (SAVING GRACE).
