Billy Elliot Biggest Per-Screen Draw

Expanding onto 37 screens, the British drama/musical Billy Elliot continued to draw big crowds in its second week. The film, which many expect to figure strongly in this year's Oscar competition, earned $489,415, an average of $13,227 per screen, more than twice the per-screen average of Meet the Parents. Meanwhile, Agence France Presse reported that Billy Elliot won the Grand Prize at the Cinéssone Film Festival in Paris Sunday, while the film's star, 14-year-old Jamie Bell was named best actor.
