Russell Crowe Joins Sam Taylor-Johnson's Ensemble Drama Rothko.

Russell Crowe is set to star as artist Mark Rothko in a film titled “Rothko” and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Crowe will lead an ensemble cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jared Harris and Aisling Franciosi, and the film will be set in the art world about Rothko's daughter’s attempt to preserve her father's legacy.

The film, adapted from Lee Seldes' The Legacy of Mark Rothko by Lara Wood, will center on the true story of Kate Rothko, daughter of celebrated painter Mark Rothko, as she enters a legal battle against his financial advisor and estate executors over the sales of her late father's art in an effort to protect her late father’s legacy and bring his art back to the people.

Lara Wood pens the screenplay, which tells the story of Rothko's "uncompromising ‘David vs Goliath’ fight against a corrupt elite to protect her late father's legacy and bring his art back to the people."
