BEN AFFLECK thought his pals were playing a practical joke on him when he had to wait in line to have his identification card checked at a recent Hollywood bash.

The DOGMA star, along with DAVID SPADE, had to queue up for the party, being held by RUSH HOUR director BRETT RATNER.

And, once the ARMAGEDDON actor got past the first line of guests the star was devastated to discover another security checkpoint at the front door.

A source says, "Ben took it all in his stride. But he was definitely surprised. He thought they were playing a joke on him."
