Amy Adams joins the cast of Universal's Dear Evan Hansen film adaptation.

Amy Adams has joined the cast of Universal Pictures' "Dear Evan Hansen" and will portray Cynthia Murphy, mother of the characters Connor and Zoe Murphy.

Danny Pino joined the cast and will play Connor and Zoe's stepfather, and Cynthia Murphy's husband, in a role that has been conceived for the film.

The story follows Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety. He unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of a classmate who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen's letters for their son's suicide note. Adams will play Cynthia Murphy, the mother to the classmate that commits suicide.

Ben Platt, who originated the role and even won a Tony for it, is reprising the character of Evan Hansen, a socially awkward teen who gets caught up in a lie when he says he was best friends with a schoolmate who commits suicide. The act initially brings him closer to a crush and brings him attention but he must face repercussions when the truth surfaces.

Kaitlyn Dever is playing Zoe, the crush, while Amandla Stenberg has nabbed a part that expands upon the original stage role. Colton Ryan will play Connor, the teen who dies. Nik Dodani is also on the roll call.
