Jared Leto Confirms He'll Play Andy Warhol in Upcoming Movie.

Jared Leto has been cast as Andy Warhol in an upcoming movie, adding that he's 'so grateful and excited' to play the legendary artist.

Writing on Instagram, he said "Yes it's true I will be playing Andy Warhol in an upcoming film" adding that was "so grateful and excited about the opportunity."

The post came one day after what would have been Warhol's 92nd birthday. The painter died at the age of 58 in 1987 from a sudden irregular heartbeat after undergoing gallbladder surgery.

He also wished the late artist a "happy belated birthday" and added "we miss you and your genius."

Leto was first linked to an Andy Warhol biopic, based on Victor Bockris’ 1989 book Warhol: The Biography, back in 2016. With Leto as both the lead actor and co-producer, the film also had Terence Winter - the screenwriter behind The Wolf of Wall Street and Boardwalk Empire - attached as a writer.

However, the new announcement doesn’t provide much more information, meaning it’s difficult to tell whether it relates to the same project, or whether any other production details have changed in the interim.

Warhol was hugely popular in the 1960s, and his most famous work includes the classic Campbell’s soup cans and the Marilyn Diptych, both of which he made in 1962.
