James Gunn's "Suicide Squad" Finishes Casting.

Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that his upcoming "The Suicide Squad" film has been "fully cast" and that a table read for the project occurred the other day.

He adds on Twitter: "I was, truly, blown away by the amount of talent in the room. Holy cow." It's expected a few lingering names not yet revealed will emerge shortly.

According to a new report, Oscar-winner Peter Capaldi has signed on for an as-of-yet-unspecified role in the James Gunn-directed movie. Pete Davidson, meanwhile, is said to be in negotiations for a small cameo. While Capaldi sounds like a done deal, Davidson will have to squeeze this in between breaks from the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live and the deal hasn't closed yet.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” director Gunn also wrote the script to the project, in which supervillains are recruited by the government to carry out secret missions.

Though it fell flat with critics, the original “Suicide Squad” was a box office sensation, grossing $746.8 million worldwide. “The Suicide Squad” will hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis are reprising their roles and Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior have joined the film.
