Mommie Dearest (1981) - Details
Faye Dunaway gives and underapprecieated-and over-the top-performance as self-made movie star Joan Crawford, in this well-crafted-but helplessly campy adaptation of the book by the actresses estranged daughter, Christina, whose recollections paint a very unflattering-not to mention freightning-picture of her celebrated upbringing. As a period piece, the film spears no expense in vividly recreating the glamorous Hollywood of yesteryear. However, as a drama, many of the scenes which explore the deep rooted dysfunction within the family including the now famous "No Wire Hangers" sequence are downright laughable. Tracey Q. Bush
