Richard Attenborough's first outing as director. A stellar cast including, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Maggie Smith, Michael Redgrave etc. The first world war told as an end of the pier show with the songs of the troops and transitions to the reality and brutality of the war as experienced by the family Smith.
