Contraband : Movie Review

“Contraband” is a remake of the Icelandic film “Reykjavík-Rotterdam (2008)”. Starring Mark Wahlberg, it is the story of an infamous 2nd generation smuggler (Chris Farraday) from New Orleans who has left the life of crime and gone legitimate so that his wife and children can lead a normal life. All is well in his world, as Chris who is now a legitimate business owner makes a living as a security expert.

Unfortunately, for Chris his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) runs afoul while making a drug run and owes the local gangster, Tim Biggs (Giovanni Ribisi) for the cargo. As a result, Chris learns just as Michael Corleone of “The Godfather” so eloquently stated, “Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in.” To protect his family, he offers to assume Andy’s debt. He is then forced to resume his old life of smuggling contraband.
