Straw Dogs : Movie Review

'Remake' - the word elicits a strong reaction from movie fans, and rightfully so given how many times we've been burned by studios looking to cash in on a known entity by selling us an inferior product. Just recently it was announced Alcon Entertainment's preparing a Point Break remake (though with extreme sports substituting for surfing), and the reaction to that proposed project was overwhelmingly negative. Any filmmaker/studio/screenwriter who treads upon what someone somewhere considers hallowed ground by redoing a film already in existence is walking into the flames fully aware of what's in store for them. Rod Lurie didn't just walk but ran full-steam into the danger zone when he decided to not only direct but also adapt the screenplay to a remake of Straw Dogs, a controversial thriller directed by Sam Peckinpah and considered to be one of the director's greatest films.
