Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (2009)Mark Hunter (Michael Douglas) is a high-profile criminal lawyer with a second-to-none conviction rate. But when an ambitious rookie journalist C.J. Nicholas (Jesse Metcalfe) begins to suspect Hunter may be tampering with evidence in order to win Hunter finds himself and his push to be elected as governor in trouble.

Can Nicholas catch Hunter in the act of tampering with evidence? He frames himself for murder in order to find out. At this point the plot has already got a bit weird and it only gets stranger. Would someone really frame himself for murder in order to test a theory and would he put himself and his girlfriend (Amber Tamblyn) in danger in the process? It seems a little bit stupid to me.

That said the direction is good and the acting, especially from Douglas, (as always) is of a high calibre. If you can look past the plot deficiency that I already highlighted (and I suggest that you do try to) then you will still find a tense thriller. In all honesty it’s not my favourite genre of film but the performance from Douglas alone is worth watching it for.
