Legend of the Guardians Feature - Greatest Owls on Film

Legend of the Guardians (In cinemas 22nd October 2010)

To coincide with the release of Zach Synder’s latest film, Legend of the Guardians, we thought we’d take a look at greatest owls throughout film from the cute and fluffy to the wise and old.

Young owl Soren aspires to one day join the Guardians he has heard so many stories about even if his older brother Kludd thinks it’s a silly childhood fairy-tale. After a sibling scuffle, both owlets fall from their treetop and end up in the clutches of the Pure Ones. Soren escapes and with the help of other brave owls go on a journey of bravery and courage to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians. In Cinemas 22nd October 2010

Harry Potter (Hedwig)
The bird that had several children begging for a new pet for Christmas is the beautifully white Hedwig, Harry Potter’s owl. In the magical world of Harry Potter owls are commonly used for post, however Hedwig and Harry are known to have such a personal relationship it’s as if they can understand each other. Even though Hedwig is a female owl she is played by males in the film as female owls can never be completely white and they are not only heavier but larger to handle. Hedwig was the first character to be cast for Harry Potter too.

Legend of the Guardians (2010) - Movie PosterThe Sword and the Stone (Archimedes)
Archimedes is Merlin's pet owl who has the ability of speaking. He accompanies Arthur during his training, and is the one who alerts Merlin after Madam Mim kidnaps Arthur. Archimedes decides to stay with Arthur when Merlin travels into the 20th Century. This owl is a great character from his mood swings to his insane laugh that you just can’t help but chuckle along with.

Winnie the Pooh (Owl)
Owl is a close friend of Pooh. He is always happy to offer his opinions, advice, and anecdotes - whether or not they are actually wanted. Unlike the rest of the characters (bar Rabbit) Owl is surprisingly illustrated more like an animal than a stuffed toy. Owl lives in a tree known as The Chestnuts, located in the middle of the Hundred Acre Wood its grand exterior includes both a door-knocker and a bell-pull. Owl is usually portrayed wearing glasses and when writing uses his talons not his wing both of which always gave him the depiction of being wise and intelligent.

Fox and the Hound (Big Mama)
When a baby fox becomes orphaned its Big Mama and friends that help get Tod the fox adopted. Always looking out for him as he grows up Big Mama is the voice of reason and cares for Tod as if he were her own. Big Mama is the one who softly explains to Tod that he can’t be best friends with Copper the hound forever as they’re natural enemies. She even plays matchmaker as she introduces him to the lady fox, Vixey.

Clash of The Titans (Bubo)
Athena is ordered by Zeus to send her magical owl "Bubo" to help Perseus after he loses his helmet of invisibility. However, because of her love for the owl she sends a replica robotic owl instead. Bubo’s form of communication is through a series of whistles, bleeps and bloops, but of course Perseus can easily understand all of the noises that Bubo makes. Bubo ends up being a very handy owl to keep around by distracting the Kraken as it battles with Perseus.
