Seeker: The Dark Is Rising, The : Movie Review

So if we are to believe The Seeker, the family fantasy based on Sandra Cooper's Newberry Prize-winning novel, the fate of the world rests on a 14-year-old boy's success in completing a scavenger hunt. In David L. Cunningham's film, penned by Shallow Grave/Trainspotting screenwriter John Hodge, it is never put in quite those terms, but that is essentially the task young Will Stanton (Alexander Ludwig) is given. It is all fairly enjoyable in a junior league Harry Potter-ish sort of way, but it is never exactly clear who Cunningham expects to line up for this movie, which is a little too simplistic for adults, but maybe too dark for a lot of kids.
