Charlotte's Web : Movie Review

Before there was Babe, there was Wilbur, the runt piglet hero of E. B.White's beloved Charlotte's Web, which the Children's Literature Association ranks as one of the 11 greatest American children's books published between 1776 and 1976. Previously adapted for the screen in 1973 as an animated musical featuring the voices of Debbie Reynolds and Henry Gibson, Charlotte's Web returns to charm a new generation of moviegoers in Gary Winick's heartwarming but never saccharine live-action film version of White's barnyard fable. Save for the glut of cornball jokes sprinkled throughout the narrative by screenwriters Susannah Grant and Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run), Charlotte's Web honors the spirit of the 1952 classic by imparting White's life lessons with sweet gravity.
