Rachel Zegler sparkles as Snow White. She’s an excellent fit for the role and she even adds some depth to the character as she adds some modern twists to the character. She has a sweet singing voice and her performance is very impressive throughout.
The visuals are perfect. The colours are bright and vibrant - really showcasing the costumes that are colourful and impressively designed.
This is Snow White, but not as you’ve seen it before. Alongside songs from the original , five newly composed songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are just right for the movie, breathing new melody into a well-known story. "Waiting on a Wish" and "Princess Problems sound like something that Taylor Swift might sing - well the titles at least!
Gal Gadot's seems the perfect choice for the role of the Evil Queen. If you can’t get Angelina Jolie then Gadot is definitely a very close second best. that said they could have fleshed out her role a little more, increased her screen time and given her more to do. You don’t get a top quality actor and then limit their screen time. On this occasion the character simply doesn’t get too much time on screen, just down to the limited nature of the character on an historic level I suppose.
Reviews have said that the decision to use CGI for the dwarfs was a mistake. But seriously this is the only real solution to a difficult decision. And I think it was exactly the right choice. Live action performers would not have been the correct way to go and animated whilst possibly offering greater whimsy, would have looked completely out of place.
Snow White is an enjoyable watch. It’s a fun and charming musical and it is a solid addition to the increasingly long list of Disney live-action movies.
