When is a 3 hour and 40 minute film too short? How about when it is trying to span a good part of a very long war which many have spent a lifetime studying? Gods and Generals, by necessity, compresses 2 years and a cast of hundreds (if not thousands) into its 220 minute running time. Though individual segments are interesting and the attention to detail impressive, we remain unsatisfied. More time is needed to do this complex historical event justice.
