Sirène rouge, La : Movie Review

The red siren ( la sirène rouge) (on the web : lasirenerouge.com)
Directed by Olivier Mégaton
Starring : Jean-Marc Barr, Asia Argento, Alexandra Negrao, Edouard Montoute, . ..

After having denounced her mother to the police, Alice, twelve years old, has to get away. .. During her escape, she meet a mercenary who agrees to help her to find her father, and thus, be in safety.

Olivier Mégaton has adapted the book "la sirène rouge", written by Maurice G. Dantec. That movie is as strange as disconceting. What makes it all the more bizarre is the techniqual mastery whose Olivier Mégaton has. Scenes are all polished, visually impressive. .. By starting his movie with a beautiful action scene, the director shows us how talented he is! But, it's only a glimpse of everything he's able to do! Shots are all superb, but it's not enough to make a great film. .. The problem with the movie is the way he has chosen to tell the story. If the book was six hundred pages long, the film only borrows the plot, forgetting to include the politic and philosophic dimension of Dantec's work. The story is a little too simple, unfortunately! By many points, the movie could be compared with Léon, by Luc Besson. But Luc Besson has managed where Mégaton has failed: by putting feelings and giving a psychology to his characters. .. Nevertheless, The red Siren is a movie quite pleasant to watch, at least for the beauty of its pictures, and the talent of his director. ..
