COBRA KAI SEASON 3

The iconic archrivals Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), from the legendary The Karate Kid film series return for COBRA KAI Season 3, available Blu-ray and DVD on 17th January from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The series continues thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament following the lives of the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso as he trains the next generation of ‘karate kids’ at his Miyagi-Do Karate Dojo and Johnny Lawrence, his former rival, now the new sensei of the infamous Cobra Kai Dojo. The LaRusso-Lawrence rivalry lives on, with the feud reverberating through the next generation leading to dire consequences. With the fate of every student and sensei hanging in the balance, Daniel and Johnny must work together to restore the soul of The Valley.

Season 3 finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between the dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. Realizing they have pushed their rivalry too far, Daniel teams up with Johnny to mend the tension between themselves and their students. Daniel returns to Okinawa, Japan, Mr. Miyagi’s hometown, in search of answers from his past, reuniting with old friends and foes along the way. Meanwhile back in The Valley, Johnny is on a journey of his own, a journey towards redemption, but with both senseis occupied, merciless sensei John Kreese seizes his chance to further his own vision of dominance.

Kobra Kai has been excellent for it's first three seasons. It effortlessly combines characters and storylines from the original movies with new younger characters. Infact it has brilliantly built on the world of The Karate Kid that we knew from the 80s.

It's been a surprise to find that the original bad guy has been turned into a good guy from the TV series, William Zabka has been fantastic in the role, I think many viewers will agree that they now prefer Johnny to Daniel! That Zabka has been able to pull this off says a lot about his abilities as an actor.

The younger members of the cast are all very impressive too, taking the physical elements of the Karate to a whole new level. It's amazing at times. Macchio and Zabka are able to keep up and they seem to have only matured as actors despite possibly having slightly patchy careers.

I'm very much enjoying Kobra Kai and will be eagerly awaiting new episodes as this excellent series will surely be renewed for future seasons. From You Tube to Netflix this TV show has really proved that on demand TV shows can work extremely well and if it is a well written and produced as this it can amass a very big and faithful audience quickly from both fans of the original films and new fans.
