Set ten years after the events of the first film, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP finds Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), and Wichita (Emma Stone) working together as a well-oiled, zombie-killing machine with a new home in the now-vacant White House. These four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Zombieland: Double Tap DVDI'm delighted to see that director Ruben Fleischer has returned to direct this second installment after his (I thought) very impressive direction of Venom. And it's also good to see that the script is once again penned by original Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. I always think sequels are better with the original cast and crew.

Even after a ten year wait for this sequel it was clear that fans wanted to see it. And that the cast and crew were excited to be making it.

The principle actors of Harrleson, Stone, Eisenberg and Breslin all slip back into their characters with ease despite the long absence. Each of them is professional and likeable with Harrleson and Stone especially skilled at comic roles. Indeed I think I'm yet to watch a film where Stone doesn't give a totally committed and winning performance. Harrelson likewise. They're both experts of their craft whether it be comic or dramatic.
Eisenberg is the defacto lead and he's worthy of the part but he never quite matches up to Harrleson and Stone in pure dramatic terms. Breslin is perhaps the weakest of the quartet but given her younger age in the first film she certainly performed admirably in that installment if perhaps not quite so smoothly in this movie.

The plot will never stand up to the excellent storyline of the first movie - origin stories often are stronger than sequels where it's less easy to know where to take characters in terms of development and relationships but this is nonetheless a fun and exciting ride through the world of Zombieland.

Many films have tried to capture the magic of the original Zombieland movie and the majority have failed. Double Tap recaptures the magic and builds on the storyline and characters.

Well written and skillfully directed Double Tap is a fine and worthy followup to Zombieland that will please fans of the original and win new fans too.
