Tomb Raider is a story that sets young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero.

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.

I'm old enough to remember playing the first ever Tomb Raider game when it was first released on the original Playstation as well as several of the sequels. I remember watching the two movies with Angelina Jolie as the star at the cinema. I've always enjoyed Tomb Raider so this reboot was something that I was certainly keen to watch and review.

Here we have a big budget reboot of the action-adventure series that is basically a female version of Indian Jones. And that's not a bad thing. It's great to see a strong (and relatable and likeable) female as the lead actress in a well made, action packed and enjoyable movie. There's no doubt that Alicia Vikander is the star of this movie. She has an amazing screen presence and owns every scene that she's in - which is of course pretty much every one of them.

Tomb Raider Is an origin film that feels real. Giving Lara Croft a backstory and bringing her to life with loads of action. But it's grounded with believable action without reliance on CGI or silly stunt work. Vikander gives us a relatable and honest Lara Croft that rather than duel-wielding massive handguns prefers a bow.

It’s a treat to watch anything on 4KHD ultra image quality. The transfer is extremely clear, the image is crisp, the colours are deep and rich with a superb contrast ratio. The sound is also amazing through a 5.1 sound system.
