Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story) : Movie Review

Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story) (2015)

Title: Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story)
Directed: by Eva Husson
Written: by Eva Husson
Starring: Daisy Broom, Marilyn Lima
Running time: 98 minutes

Written and directed by Eva Husson this French language film feels largely improvised. The cast are young and relatively inexperienced actors.

The storyline is basic and anyone expecting this to be a sex fest of young naked French bodies will be disappointed... Which isn't a bad thing as this cast isn't the best looking and there is nothing progressive or shocking about this film. It fails to live up the heights of films such as Blue is the Warmest Colour.

Two dim-witted teenage girls, Laetitia (Daisy Broom) and her best friend George (Marilyn Lima) actually seem to believe that they have in fact invented the idea of group sex. Along for the ride are two quite ugly young boys both blessed with the charm and sophistication of snails.

Tedious scenes of these youngsters playing lame games of “Spin the Bottle” and “Truth or Dare” which turn into strip versions of the games and then scenes of group sex are pretty tacky and are far from sophisticated. It's difficult to feel that this could ever have been considered a love story.

In fact this is about on par for most films of this nature, such as Gaspar Noe’s LOVE, it’s just tacky sex scenes and mostly fairly poor acting and poor dialogue.

I found Bang Gang to be nothing more than the sort of thing that adolescents probably just get up to anyway. There's nothing more interesting or beautiful than that going on here. This is a very basic storyline that fails to excite or impress.

The only good thing I can think to say is that the film was freely flowing and had a carefree, dreamlike feel that some viewers may enjoy. But perhaps viewers will be brought quickly back to reality when having to watch scenes of syphilis testing.

Sadly this film failed to capture my interest or imagination.
