Biography

CRAIG PEARCE , who has worked extensively as an actor in Australian theatre and television, first began writing with boyhood friend Baz Luhrmann when both were studying to be actors at Sydney's
National Institute of Drama (NIDA). In 1991, Pearce co-wrote the screenplay for STRICTLY BALLROOM (1992). The film won an AFI Award for Best Screenplay, a BAFTA (British Academy Award) nomination for Best Screenplay, and the New South Wales Premier's Literary Award, also for
Best Screenplay. Pearce and Luhrmann next collaborated on WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO and JULIET (1996), which broke box-office records worldwide, and among numerous other awards, won a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay.
