Piero Maggio - Details

Biography

The role of Carlo in Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) gave Piero Maggio an opportunity to pay homage to a great-uncle who died during the war, long before he was born.
Piero Maggio, a former model and boxer, is from the seaside town of Rimini, though he was born in Switzerland, where he lived for three years. His first acting experience came by accident but it felt "positive" so he decided to investigate the profession more seriously. "From boxing, I learned that if you want something you must work very hard to get it. " In
that profession, Piero trained vigorously, eventually winning membership on Italy's national boxing team.
He pursued acting with a similar dedication, commuting from Rimini to Rome to study every day. He embraceed the "Method": "If you want to show something, and if you feel it from the inside, it just happens. Otherwise, the work is very hard." His first break came in 1997 with Armando Manni's feature, "Elvis & Marylin (1998)." Other film and television roles soon followed: "Sabato Italiano (1992)," "I Pavoni (1994)," "Terra Bruciata (1999)," "Bagnomaria (1999)" and Laura Belli's "Film."
"Who could imagine that someone from Rimini could become an actor," he says wonderingly. Still, here he is, working alongside Nicolas Cage. "I carry the necessities of my role off the set. I'm always looking out for Nic, even in the evening when we get together."
