Biography

DOUGLAS URBANSKI is currently partnered with Gary Oldman in the SE8 Group, which they formed in 1995. Their first project was Oldman's acclaimed feature "Nil By Mouth (1997) ," for which Urbanski won a BAFTA Award for Best British Film for his work as a producer. They more recently executive produced "Plunkett & Macleane (1999) ," and their upcoming projects include "Nobody's Baby," in which Oldman will star, and "Joe Buck," to be written and directed by Oldman.
Urbanski's career began in the theatre. In 1978, at the age of 20, he became Broadway's youngest producer with "Say Goodnight, Gracie." His later credits include 30 Broadway productions, which have earned more than 30 Tony Award nominations, as well as Drama Critics Circle Awards and Drama Desk Awards. Among the titles are the 1980 revival of "Showboat"; Eugene O'Neill's "Strange Interlude," starring Glenda Jackson; Michael Frayn's "Benefactors," starring Glenn Close and Sam Waterston; "The Merchant of Venice," starring Dustin Hoffman; and "Sweet Bird of Youth," directed by Harold Pinter and starring Lauren Bacall.
He has also produced for the stage internationally, including the London productions of "The Way of the World," with Maggie Smith and Joan Plowright, and O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night," starring Jack Lemmon. His 14 productions in London's West End have received numerous honors, including Evening Standard and Olivier Awards.
