Biography

JOHN TOLL has the rare distinction of winning back-to-back Academy Awards® for Best Cinematography: the first in 1995 for Edward Zwick's sweeping romantic drama Legends of the Fall (1994) and a second in 1996 for his work on Mel Gibson's epic drama Braveheart (1996)

Last year, he earned another Academy Award® nomination for Terrence Malick's World War II drama Thin Red Line, THE (1998) for which he also received a Jury Special Mention at the Berlin Film Festival.
Toll most recently lensed Simpatico (1999) starring Jeff Bridges, Sharon Stone and Nick Nolte. His other credits as a director of photography include the Francis Ford Coppola films Rainmaker, THE (1997) and Jack, and Carroll Ballard's Wind (1993)
