Biography

DINO DE LAURENTIIS has amassed more than 60 years in the film industry. The legendary producer from Naples has been involved in producing such diverse movies as Bitter Rice, War and Peace, Nights of Cabiria, Diabolique, Barbarella, Flash Gordon, Barrabas, Death Wish, The Bible, Waterloo, Serpico, Three Days of the Condor, King Kong, Ragtime, The Bounty, Tai-Pan, Dune, Anzio and Conan the Barbarian. He received Academy Awards® for Best Foreign Language Film for both La Strada (1954) Nights of Cabiria (1957), both directed by Fellini, and collectively his films have received 30 Oscar® nominations and 59 foreign awards, most notably three Golden Lions, a Palme d’Or and three Golden Globes.

De Laurentiis played a major role as a producer in the postwar Italian films by such directors as Fellini, Rossellini, Visconti, De Sica and Antonioni. Their bodies of work were the backbone of the movement known as "neorealism."

In 1990 De Laurentiis married Martha Schumacher, and together they have produced: Firestarter, Cat’s Eye, Raw Deal, Bedroom Window, the Oscar®-nominated Crimes of the Heart, Michael Cimino’s Desperate Hours, the critically acclaimed Bound, starring Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon, Breakdown, starring Kurt Russell and most recently the box office hit U-571, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jon Bon Jovi.
