The most recent among these was Jan De Bont’s psychological thriller The Haunting, in which she starred with Liam Neeson and Lili Taylor.

In Jon Amiel’s globe-trotting romantic thriller Entrapment, Zeta-Jones starred opposite screen legend Sean Connery.

The film that brought her international recognition was Martin Campbell’s action adventure The Mask of Zorro, in which she starred opposite Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins.

American audiences first took notice of Zeta-Jones as the leading lady of the CBS miniseries Titanic (directed by Robert Lieberman), in which she starred with Peter Gallagher, Eva Marie Saint, and George C. Scott. The four-hour epic blended history and fiction in its recreation of the luxury oceanliner. While watching television one evening, Steven Spielberg was struck by her performance in Titanic. This led directly to her being cast in a film that his company was producing The Mask of Zorro.

Born in Wales, Zeta-Jones starred in the West End production of 42nd Street before landing a starring role in the hit Yorkshire Television series The Darling Buds of May (based on the novels of H.E. Bates).
