Acting not so scary for MacFarlane.

Seth MacFarlane has revealed he was initially fearful of acting in A Million Ways To Die In The West.

The Family Guy creator steps in front of the cameras for the second time in the comedy Western, which he also directed, co-wrote and co-produced.

"It was intimidating at first and then I found it was not as much of a transition from the voice acting as I had feared," he said. "You're still building a character at the core and the rules are the same - you're just using your whole body instead of just your voice."

Seth, who plays cowardly cowboy Albert Stark, credited his co-star Charlize Theron for helping him through the process.

"I also had Charlize there, who was just an extraordinary partner and made my transition that much easier," he added.

Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Foxx, Ewan McGregor and Christopher Lloyd, who appears as his Back To The Future alter-ego Doc Brown, make cameos in the film.

The 40-year-old said Christopher's cameo " was an after-thought".

"The idea came about while we were filming. We had deliberately kept away from any modern pop culture references - we had confined ourselves to the world of 1882 and we just decided to allow ourselves this one Family Guy-ish gag and he said yes," he explained.

Seth joked he wouldn't have survived if he was to live out in the Wild West, saying: "I would have fared very badly in the West. I don't function well in places without air-conditioning or penicillin."
