Banderas: Puss In Boots 2 under way.

Antonio Banderas has revealed that he has started recording the Puss In Boots sequel.

The Spanish actor is set to reprise his voice role as the swashbuckling cat in the DreamWorks animated follow-up.

"We started the new one four days ago," he told Collider.

The character, who first featured in the Shrek films, spawned his own spin-off in 2011, after becoming a hit with audiences. The film, which also starred Salma Hayek, Zack Galifianakis and Billy Bob Thornton, was nominated for an Oscar.

"It (the first film) did incredibly well with audiences and critics, all around the world, and the character is going to keep going. With Jeffrey Katzenberg, whatever he wants. He's one of my favourite producers," Antonio continued.

"This character was born almost 12 years ago. We have had a lot of fun with him, and it seems that audiences do, too. So, we're doing another one."

The film's executive producer Guillermo del Toro previously revealed that they had seen a few drafts of the screenplay for Puss In Boots 2.

He also revealed that Puss will find himself in a different location for the sequel.

"We take Puss to a completely different land which is very exotic. When Chris Miller, the director, said 'I don't want Puss to happen in the same universe as the Shrek movies visually, I want to do a spaghetti Western,' he is, in this case, trying to do an adventure movie so we're taking him to a very exotic locale," he said.
