McAvoy: Honour to work with Stewart.

James McAvoy has revealed working with Sir Patrick Stewart on X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) was "an honour".

The Scottish star, who reprises his role as the young Charles Xavier in the upcoming sequel, came face-to-face with Patrick, who returns to play the older version of the same character.

" It was lovely. I've been a big fan of him and the Star Trek films for years," he said.

"He was incredible as Captain Jean-Luc Picard - he had so much gravitas, so much weight, so much authority and nobility - so to get to do my bit against his bit and put our two conks in profile together was really an honour."

James also joked about being a better actor than his 73-year-old counterpart.

"He's like a slightly less good actor than me, so it feels great working with him. It makes you feel like a better actor, and you know you're going to come out, having won the scene," quipped the 34-year-old.

Bryan Singer's sequel, which will be released on May 22, sees the new generation of X-Men cast such as Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult joining forces with the older co-stars, including Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry.

"The idea of amalgamating the cast from previous films has just been incredible, because not only does it take pressure off Michael and I, which is great, it also just makes the film more of what it is. More is more, and this is more," James said.

James and his co-star Hugh Jackman this week unveiled Virgin Trains' new X-Men: Days Of Future Past train, as part of the company's partnership with the new blockbuster.
