Jennifer Lawrence has admitted she doesn't put "a lot of thought" into picking film roles.

The Hunger Games star revealed that despite her success she has never really had a game plan when it comes to her career.

"I don't really look for something (like Oscar potential) when I sit down to read a script," she said. "There is not really a lot of thought. It's a bizarre instinctual and emotional thing that just hits me."

Oscar-winner Jennifer has starred in both studio blockbusters and smaller independent films, but insists her success "j ust sort of happened".

"I started out in indies and I always imagined myself being in smaller movies for the rest of my career," she said. "Then Hunger Games came along and I was in a big pickle. I would have done it in a heartbeat if it were an indie, but it was giant! I had to take a few days to think about it."

The 23-year-old admitted the franchise based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling books has raised the bar for her, which she then built on with her Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook (2012). She said: " It took everything to a different place that I could have never imagined. And the (Oscar) did wonderful things for my career. I'm just rolling with it."

Jennifer's upcoming projects include David O Russell's 1970s corruption tale American Hustle (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Dumber And Dumber To, and she will soon go behind the camera as producer of the adaptation of Jeanette Walls' 2005 best-selling memoir, The Glass Castle.

''I don't know if I will be any good," she confessed. " But I'm trying it."
