Dumb and Dumber To has been given the green light.

The Farrelly brothers confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday (June 19) that the Dumb and Dumber sequel will go into production with backing from Universal Pictures and Red Granite.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are on board to return for the new movie, which would see the pair hit the road in search of the latter's illegitimate daughter for a kidney transplant. The sequel will be set 20 years after the first film.

The 1994 original Dumb and Dumber cost $14 million (£9 million) and went on to gross $247 million (£158 million). 2003 prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd did not feature the original stars.
