The Hunger Games Storms MTV Movie Awards


Hunger Games, The (2012) has dominated this year's MTV Movie Awards.

The book-turned-film scooped four awards, for best male performance by Josh Hutcherson, best female performance by Jennifer Lawrence, best transformation by Elizabeth banks and best fight scene.

The film, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, was released in March this year and brought in a record \$152.5m (£99.1m) in its opening weekend.

Movie of the year award, however, went to the latest in the Twilight series - Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, The (2011).

The vampire saga has now won the title four years in a row. It fought off competition from The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Taylor Lautner accepted the award and thanked fans for their loyalty and dedication to the franchise.

Johnny Depp was honoured with the generation award for his acting career spanning three decades.

In his acceptance speech he said: "It's like the get-out-of-the-business award basically, when you've done too much ... There's obviously something wrong with me."

Russell Brand hosted the evening and supplied comedic entertainment, even using his recent divorce from pop-star wife Katy Perry as material for his act.

He said: "Last time I did an MTV show I ended up marrying someone."

"Tonight I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife."

The comedian also targeted Kim Kardashian, saying: "Kim took a lot of pressure off with her world record marriage - thanks, Kim."

Other Notable moments came from Batman star Christian Bale, who gave an emotional introduction to an exclusive trailer for the upcoming film Dark Knight Rises, The (2012)

His words came after footage of the late Heath Ledger playing the Joker was shown from the second installment of the Christopher Nolan Batman franchise.
