Cruise, Diaz break 'Top Gear' lap record

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz have both broken the record for the fastest celebrity lap times during their appearance on Top Gear.

The Knight & Day (2010) actors took part in the 'star in a reasonably priced car' challenge on the BBC motoring show on Sunday night, which saw each of them drive round a racing track in a small hatchback.

Cameron Diaz took part in the programme's Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment, which aired on Sunday, and attempted to beat her Knight & Day co-star Tom Cruise's track time.

But she forced producers on the show to heavily edit her race time, after she continually swore during the challenge, as she struggled to hit corners at speed.

Diaz posted the series's quickest time of 1 minute, 45.2 seconds, which itself was shortly eclipsed by Cruise's time of 1 minute, 44.2 seconds.

They both beat the existing record of 1 minute, 45.5 seconds set by Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint.

"When I was on two wheels I thought, 'I don't know what's going to happen... If I go through on the side does the time still count?'."

Host Jeremy Clarkson admitted: "That was a breathtaking thing."
