Kate Winslet and the cast of Slumdog Millionaire were among the winners at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.
British star Winslet was named best supporting actress for her Oscar-nominated role as a a former Nazi concentration camp guard in The Reader.
Slumdog Millionaire, meanwhile, won the ensemble cast prize - the guild's equivalent of a best picture award.
Meryl Streep won best actress for Doubt while Sean Penn was named best actor for Milk at the Los Angeles event.
"I didn't even buy a dress," joked Streep as she accepted her award. "I am really, really shocked."
