Lindsay Lohan has been slated by US critics for her role in new thriller I Know Who Killed Me.

In the troubled star's latest movie, she plays two characters - a well-behaved schoolgirl and a pole dancing victim of a serial killer who likes to amputate his prey.

The opening of the film followed Lindsay's arrest for drink driving and comes just two weeks after she completed a six-week spell in rehab.

Producers of the film were hoping that the publicity, albeit negative, would drive people to check out Lohan's on-screen behaviour instead.

But critics have been just as scathing of the film as they have about Lindsay's social life. The New York Daily News says: "No review could really do justice to the monumental trashiness of this mess."

The Hollywood Reporter adds: "There's a new movie in the running for the worst film of 2007."
