Hugh Jackman is to star with Nicole Kidman in writer-director Baz Luhrmann's next movie.

The as yet untitled film is a romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to the Second World War.

Jackman will play a rough-hewn cattle driver who forms an unlikely alliance with an English aristocrat, played by Kidman.

Together, they drive 2,000 head of cattle across the country's most unforgiving land, only to arrive in Darwin in time for the bombing by Japan.

The film begins pre-production October 2006 and production commences in Australia in February 2007.
