Tom Cruise's new girlfriend Katie Holmes is being tipped to play the actor's love interest in the third installment of Mission Impossible.

Scarlett Johansson has already turned down the role and this week teenage popstar-actress Lindsay Lohan told a Los Angeles radio station she has read for the part.

But, according to the New York Post insiders say the 26-year-old former Dawson's Creek star "will step up as the leading lady."

Mission Impossible III has been delayed due to script and director problems.
