Sir Ben Kingsley is to play a vampire in a film adaptation of a video game.

The Oscar-winner will take the role of vampire ruler Kagan in BloodRayne.

Terminator 3 star Kristanna Loken will play the heroine of the title.

The film, set in the 18th century, follows the adventures of BloodRayne, a half-vampire, half-human who has the super strength of a monster but the emotions of a person, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Loken's character must overthrow Kingsley's character - who is also her father - in order to save the world from the living dead.

The £30 million movie is set to begin filming in Romania later this month.

The BloodRayne video game debuted in 2002, and a sequel is set for release this October.
