Ewan McGregor is rumoured to be in negotiations to star in sci-fi film The Island.

The film is to be directed by Michael Bay, whose previous credits include Pearl Harbour and Armageddon.

The script is about a "harvested being" who attempts to escape from a hi-tech island facility where he has been created.

Hollywoodreporter.com expects filming to get under way in the autumn.

McGregor's forthcoming releases include the next Star Wars instalment: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which is due out in May.
