Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in and produce a supernatural thriller.

The Reckoning centres on a female New York Times photojournalist who follows a team to Cambodia to recover the bones of lost soldiers.

The Hollywood Reporter says the project is based on the eponymous book by Jeff Long, which hits bookstands next month.

Witherspoon will star in and produce The Proposal.
