Tom Hanks is to play a serial womaniser in his latest role on the big screen.

In The Ladies' Man, he will star as Nash Harvey, a sex -mad writer who returns to Boston to make amends with a woman he stood up at the altar.

Human Stain director Robert Benton, who is overseeing the project, says Hanks' character has the "innate affability" necessary to make you believe he could be forgiven.

The movie has been adapted by Benton from the best-selling novel by Elinor Lipman, reports Variety.com.
