US actor placed on sex register

US actor Jeffrey Jones has been placed on a sex offender register after pleading no contest to a charge of hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photographs.
Jones, 56, who starred as the head teaceher in 1980s teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was also given five years probation and ordered to undergo counselling.

Speaking outside a Los Angeles court, Jones said: "I'm sorry that this incident was allowed to occur.

"
Such an event has never happened before and it will never happen again."

A misdemeanour charge of possession or control of child pornography was dropped.

Jones was arrested in November 2002 following a 12-month police investigation and was released on a $20,000 (£12,000) bond.

Pee-wee Herman star Paul Reubens was also arrested as part of the inquiry and has pleaded innocent to one misdemeanour count of possessing child pornography. He was freed on bail.

Jones is best-known for playing the harassed Principal Rooney in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

He also starred in Amadeus, Sleepy Hollow and Dr Doolittle.

He is due to star in a new Western TV series called Deadwood next year.
