A crack about September 11 has earned British comedian Ali G few friends in the US.

Americans refer to the date as 9/11 but Ali G referred to "the events of 7/11" - a reference to the convenience stores - on his first late night show.

But Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen), who poses idiotic questions in interviews, was closer to the mark with former CIA director R. James Woolsey: "Cast your mind back to the grassy knoll. Now, who really shot JR?"

Woolsey replies: "Don't you mean JFK?"
