Date: 14th August 2002
Winona Ryder's trial on shoplifting and other charges will begin by the end of September.
A Beverly Hills judge has set August 26 as the date when lawyers will meet to discuss the case.
The actress is charged with taking clothing and other items from a Saks Fifth Avenue store.
She did not attend yesterday's hearing.
Judge Elden Fox said a trial date would be set within 30 days of the pre-trial motions on August 26.
Ryder was arrested in December. She allegedly was carrying painkillers without a prescription and stole nearly $6,000 worth of designer merchandise.
She was charged with second-degree burglary, grand theft, vandalism and possession of a controlled substance, and could face more than three years in prison if convicted.
