Downey Jnr Decision Delights Mel

Robert Downey Jnr was smiling as he left court yesterday (19 March 2002), because the decision not to impose further probation restrictions on the actor means he can go back to work.

The court in Riverside, California, gave the troubled star the OK to return to work after months spent battling his drug problems in rehab. And that news has delighted Mel Gibson, who has signed his pal up to star in his new movie The Singing Detective. Gibson says, "He's a great talent and he's going to turn the world on its ear. I don't think he's really thrown his good stuff out there yet. "
