Battle To Save Roth-Everett Epic

An expensive new historical film starring Tim Roth and Rupert Everett is on the brink of collapsing after financial backing fell through. Cromwell And Fairfax, based on the 1640s English civil war, is a $21 million (£15 million) project being made by Ewan McGregor and Jude Law's film company Natural Nylon.

The film features Everett as the ill-fated King Charles I, Planet Of The Apes (2001) star Roth as Oliver Cromwell and Dougray Scott as military mastermind Thomas Fairfax.

The cast and crew stopped work at the start of this week (11 February 2002) after a month's shooting, when financial backing for the ambitious project fell through, and industry insiders are worried the setback spells trouble for the film company.

But a Natural Nylon spokewoman insists, "Rumours that it has collapsed are completely wrong. We're trying to sort out the finances then it will be back on. It's just a pause. "

Producer Kevin Loader adds, "The actors and crew are being fantastially supportive. Everyone is holding firm and just waiting for me to tell them when and where we will start again. "
