NICOLE KIDMAN has exploded at ex-husband TOM CRUISE for getting engaged so soon after their divorce was finalised. Cruise and new love Penélope Cruz are planning to walk down the aisle this year (2002) - a year after he split from Kidman.

Friends say Cruise travelled to Sydney, Australia to tell Kidman in person about his plans. The stunning redhead is particularly concerned about the effect the marriage will have on her and Cruise's two adopted children Isabella and Connor. At a tense 20 minute meeting Kidman told Cruise, "This will disrupt their lives terribly. The children have just gotten used to their idea of us being divorced Now you're going to give them a new stepmom, don't be so selfish. "

A pal says, "Nicole doesn't like the idea of Penelope taking on the role of mom to her kids and she probably never will.
